When talking about spirituality, the word spirit pops up. Used very often for versatile tasks, having different meanings for different media but nevertheless we all use that. Sometimes some of us don’t even know what it actually means and at others, all of us don’t know what it means. Other than just being a linguistic term, the spirit has a spirit of its own. We borrow the spirit from the word and put it into whatsoever we are dealing with. Without having being proven scientifically, it’s always there in shining in its eternal glory.
Times are changing. With every second passing by, we hear that time is changing. Nothing in this universe is the same as the older second that just left the platform. It’s always a brand new second, a brand day, a brand new month, a brand new year and a brand new start. But in some of the newer days, everything around us is getting digitalized. Everything is connected to the other creating this codec massive chaos, where one thing is manipulating the other. Somewhere in the ancient tales, there used to be a species having those interlinked interrelations and we hear that the species was the homo-sapiens.
In some of the ancient tales that I happen to remember, people used to come up with masterpieces, claiming to have injected their spirits into those masterpieces, whether that be Mona Lisa, Taj Mahal, The Great Wall of China, Pyramids of Egypt, Religions like Islam and Christianity and the list goes on. Spirituality is always exhibited by the monument that stands beside you, claiming its eternal glory. And now, well, the times are changing. The monuments today are these digital codes, interconnected devices, 3-D visions and virtual realities.
It’s very difficult for me to digest that an electronically written program can exhibit a spirit being put into it. For me the idea of something spiritual is somewhere you can walk into, a magnificent height and a nirvana exhibiting monument. Somehow I never got the idea of a mechanical spirit, of a digital spirit, a spirit exhibited into a code, a spirit exhibited by a giant compressor, a rocket or even a sky scraper for that matter. A spirit needs to be simple, elegant and soothing. Through an era, I have been thinking that its all about money, but it simply is not.
It is about passion, about dignity, about recognition and to some extent about offering services to the mankind. Money, multinationals and billionaire personalities and glories are just the side benefits that come along. There must be some people who can make a difference with their bare hands and a vision. Those are the new spiritual people we are going to find abundantly and I guess with everything revolutionized, the franchise of spirituality has launched another brand entitled Digital Spirituality because after all the following is very much true:
People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they’re not on your road, doesn’t mean that they are lost.
With the advancements of technology, we all are getting more and more practical. We are out of the myths that cultures have held long enough. We can now test various facts and figures in accordance with the internationally established indexes. We are playing 3D games, we are watching 3D movies, we are living virtual realities. We don’t believe in just saying it rather most of us are now interested in watching it happen, observing it getting unfold and enjoying a walk along how it all happens.
Long gone are the days when some Aladdin goes out for princess Jasmine, when a beautiful Belle accepts the true love in a disguised form, when the giant dancing boots fascinates masses, when some Faiz falls in love with a Laila and when a Romeo and a Juliet die in each other’s love.
Today we want actors to recreate it all for us, filled with emotions and absorbed with the same amount of love, devotion, honesty and struggle. Today we do not want to get out of our comfortable bed and we want these things roaming around our side by side. We want to talk with them as they cover their journeys, we want to be there when they are in a battlefield and we want to be a part of the performance, an invisible observer who admires everything going on but never can lead it.
I live in the same era of technology yet I still believe in fairy tales. I still believe myself living inside one where I am a silent observer and where I am admiring the scent of her soul. Where I am always standing there where she walks down the road and yet to her I am just like something she can’t either see or successfully manages to pass by silently. Where I can’t decide whether she is observing me or it’s just my heart following her. And like the end of every fairy tale, I believe that one day I’ll get awake from this inertia of constant stillness by the warmth of her laugh, by the love of her kiss, by the sensation of her hand inside my hands and with my tears falling from her eyes.
The era of ‘smart technology’ has successfully hit the grounds. The revolutionized world of internet has hunted the minds on the planet earth. Information technology, computerized sciences and telecommunications all are doing their best to bring ease to the humanity and revenues to the companies involved.
The tactics of marketing have altogether changed today. Today the marketing programs and slogans do not emphasis on selling the product itself, today’s marketing programs and slogans have adapted the approach to acquire customer’s royalty. To provide the customers with products they don’t even know they need. To provide customers with information about them they don’t even know themselves, which is by the way one of the missionary statements of Google.
In a decade, telecommunication technology, internet and cell phones industry have made many company a huge economic giant. Apple, Samsung, Nokia (in its good old times), Huawei, Sony and above all Google. Story began with the advent of telecommunication, competition evolved in these companies and the marketing tactics and norms changed altogether.
Then came the smart phones followed by wearable gadgets. Replacing the good old wrist watches by the smart wearable, technological gadgets took place which could only provide the users with incoming calls, email messages, urgent duties to be performed, their speed of travel whether walking or on a car and such slightly delightful functions.
During the race, google step forward and once again revolutionized the smart phone world with Android operating system and that too free of any cost. Then marched the rumors of automatically driven cars which are still under development process by Google. Wearable gadgets then came into more fashion and the company following others stepped into the market with innovative ideas.
It was okay when the news broke out of developing gadgets that could calculate heart beat rate and could identify certain very minute and usual abnormalities/regularities in human body. But it’s shockingly surprising, panicky innovative and glowingly hard to digest that Google is working on a nano-pill that could search for cancerous cells in the body, could identify tumors and could look for trouble-making organisms of the body and all directed with the help of a wearable gadget that would guide the pill to its journey inside the human body.
The project could take upto five years before its launch but if it comes to reality, it’s going to be a milestone in the field of medicine and it could be bringing a whole lot of other possible treatment ways as well. If an individual tablet coated with nano-technology could identify individual cells, who know someday the same tablet could go inside, fight with the evil viral cells to cure the diseases. Sounds as visionary as once flying in the air was but who know what tomorrow might bring to us.
Air pollution is the concentration of very small size particulate matter in air which is responsible for various respiratory diseases, some of them prove deadly to several persons of the society. Generally the air pollution level is high in urban cities. Recently WHO published a report on air pollution and it wasn’t very surprising to know that Pakistan is leading the world in this area followed by various Asian countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Egypt and others.
The primary responsible stakeholders or air pollution include industrial revolution, increased birth rate and lack of awareness regarding the air pollution in under-developed countries. There is one other stakeholder that needs to be mentioned separately and that is the behavior of people. This behavior includes the behavior of people living inside these countries and additionally the behavior of nations intruding these areas.
As far as Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran is concerned, the last factor plays a vital role. Afghanistan has been the land of unexpected, thrilling, unexpected and unpleasant adventurous incidences since the pre-historic era. At times Russians intrude the land, then talibans come forward to take hold and then USA strikes are observed later and in recent years. Whenever I hear the news of a bomb explosion, I wonder how much environmental damage would it have caused. The air strikes, use of armor, collapsed civil structures, drones, transportation carbon emissions and the list goes on.
Islamic Democratic Pakistan has always been enjoying the benefits of it geographical location. But when you accept something, you have to accept the entire package. The environmental issues are getting worse day by day in the country regarding every sort of environment including political environment, educational environment, social environment, economic environment, industrial environment and now hats off to the country, it has become a legendary leader in atmospheric environmental pollution as well. And the people of Pakistan whether be the industrialist, politician, military representative, researcher, bureaucrat, or a mere bloody civilian all have contributed great efforts to take the country to the verge of disaster in every aspect of life.
The same circumstances and the same behavioral attitudes prove true for other under developed Asian countries. When I write, it sometimes seems to me that I am an anti-states or anti-europe person because I take time to observe the outcomes of foreign intrusions with less a distance but the fact of the matter is it is not the outsider that causes the damage, it’s always the insider. Because devil always lies inside the chest.
It was October 8, 2014 and the Muslim community of planet earth was celebrating The Festival of Sacrifice. Animals are sacrificed each year at the occasion of Hajj in Saudi Arabia and throughout the world wherever Muslim Community is located. Hajj, which happens to be the largest gathering of human beings in one place peacefully performing religious obligation is itself a miraculous ritual. After that Muslims all around the world perform the sacrifice of animals and the festival lasts for three days. It is during these days when the moon turned red.
If we were living in ‘stone age era’ I would have postulated that enough animal blood has been shed to obey and please the Lord and the moon turning red is witnessing the approval of it. But being the survivals of 21st century, we all know that it has its own scientific reasons which need not to be discussed right now. The good thing is that we can declare ourselves as survivors and witnesses of the blood moon unlike several who have become a part of history as being the animals of sacrifice on the festival.
Speaking of the religious rituals, history is full of the bloodshed in the name of religion to please certain gods, goddesses and supposedly supernatural powers. In my very own country, people are very inspired by the idea of human bloodshed and they can’t find enough pleasure to make circumstances suit for the sacrifice of human beings. During these three days of the festival, along with the sacred blood of animals, comparatively less worthy and filthy blood of human beings was also shed to please the oldest and the strongest of all the antique gods, the human ego.
Four women slaughtered under the shed of ‘honor killing’ because of being involved in some sort of so called illicit affair. I wonder what sort of ‘honor’ gets restored if you murder the persons involved. In one incident a father murdered his own daughter in the name of ‘honor’ declaring himself of having slaughtered the most admired and high ranked of all the animals. Yeah this definitely would have satisfied his ‘god’ and the mood definitely would have witnessed the approval of his sacrificial spirit.
We are the people of a third world under-developed country and whenever some undesired incidence takes place, we turn our heads towards West and States and our tongues can’t get tired of admiring values in those developed countries. We quote the wonderful and magnificent systems of those areas of the world, we take pride of boasting about a few visits of those countries telling the stories of how disciplined people are over there. How much respect is delivered to the animal called ‘Homo-Sapiens’ and after that we start cursing the system here and the people here, totally keeping ourselves apart from the system because of those couple of visits to the developed countries.
But I was really glad to find out that the officials of States are as much dominated by the spirit of sacrifice as the barbarians of the this third world developing country. They also presented their sacrifice at the festival to celebrate the occasion and to show off their unity and appreciation of the Muslim Community. Like the residents of Pakistan, like the father who slaughtered a prestigious animal this year, they also sacrificed about a dozen of Homo-Sapiens during these days of the festival. Unlike the barbarians, their method of performing the ritual is very advance, they do it via drones. And I do not need to mention that whoever gets killed in a US drone attack in Pakistan, was born a militant and a threat to mankind.
But I have a slight objection at the Americans, why do they sacrifice our ‘animals’, why don’t they bring their own animals for slaughter. The Great Britain, always bearing a very high rank amongst the noble and sophisticated nations removed my objection. They sacrifice their own children for the rituals of witch hunting. The figures of children murdered for the reasons of witch hunting are getting higher. I guess it’s not just the barbarians playing the game, some ‘white collar’ nations are also interested in the festival for their own reasons, after all they all have their own lens of watching this world and it’s totally their democratic right to do so.
I would have been wrong to postulate the mood turned red because of ‘animal’ blood shed of the Muslims, it probably witnessed the approval of the bloodshed of humans of the entire planet earth.
Watching this little clip called ‘reality’ from the lens I’m wearing, I am getting certain about the Christian myth that these lunar eclipses are the sign of the ending days of this planet.
Hearing the word ‘moonwalk’ triggers the memory of Michael Jackson performing the illusion of going backwards while actually moving forward. However Moonwalking with Einstein triggers a question like what the hell are we exactly talking about?
This triggering game is a very classic of mind’s games. While discussing something with a group of people around, I actually tell my brain to trigger the correct names, dates, locations and sequences. At times, it presents the contents right in time while at others, well hats off to smartphones, laptops and availability of internet.
But taking assistance for something you should have at your fingertips feels like using a cheat code while playing some game. You read some book and by the time you finish all the detailed chapters, it happens sometimes, all you are left with is just an overview synopsis of the entire story. When it happens to me, I ask myself just to read the overview from now on. What’s the point of reading the entire detailed book when in the end all I will be left with is just the overview of the entire story?
Luckily I didn’t quit reading when one day I read a title Moonwalking with Einstein. The ‘overview’ said that it’s about an ordinary journalist who happened to cover the mnemonic competition held at Oxford University got inspired by some geeks expert in remembering and recalling anything and everything in no time and he ended up winning the championship.
The idea of remembering and recalling anything and everything glared my brain and I started reading the book. Though the book was more like the autobiography of the author but in the end it came clear to me that if I have to be good to at making my mind obeying the orders of triggering memories, I must really practice the following advice.
None of the techniques of memory sharpening will work unless you start ‘Paying Attention’ to what you are going through. 😀
We all live in an age of hi-tech gadgets, smart devices and in a global village with an ongoing war on cultural reforms. We catch too much each moment, the news, media, entertainment, blogs, forums, columns, seminars, technological updates, advancements in medicines, weather forecasts, stock market trends and the list goes on. Technology that was considered magnificent in its youth is now termed as ‘classic’. Classic cars, telephones with a dial, music players, and type writers are some examples of the old stuff.
However there are some things that I can neither put into the old classy category nor into the state of the art technological stuff, paper & pen and human brain, for instance. In my earlier school days my teachers used to advise students not to cram, rather understand the concepts and I always used to ask myself how am I supposed to put the understood concept to work if I haven’t memorized it and I’d have to cram it for the purpose stated.
Then came the idea of open book tests, which unfortunately I could not experience at least in my educational career. I had to memorize most of the stuff and surprisingly I still put that crammed stuff to use and I enjoy doing so. Before the era of modern communications, there were classy telephone sets with a dial. I used to remember all my friends phone number, we didn’t use to have very long conversations but we knew the statuses surprisingly without even Facebook.
Then the era of technology flooded every aspect of life. Internet from dial up to hi speed broadband and wireless networks, cell phones from simple sets to today’s smart phones, computers from personal computers to smart tablets, gadgets from a wrist watch to Samsung gear. People welcomed the revolution with open arms and close minds. Everything new introduced in the market has now become a status symbol.
Running this technological marathon, I forgot when did I start to surrender myself to this technology, when did I start to stop memorizing rather stop ‘cramming’ my friends telephone numbers, when did I start preferring to store the moments inside my cell phone rather than inside my brain, when did I start to look at the scene through the lens of my cell phone camera rather than the lens of my eyes, when did I start letting this technology live my life instead of me, when did I start letting these gadgets take over my mind and memories, when did I start getting addicted to this newly introduced technology and when did i stop considering what I had crammed a very long ago.
And what I crammed was: Every form of addiction is bad, no matter whether the narcotic be alcohol or morphine or idealism (or technology in current scenario).
